Bought this EP from a friend who needed some cash, I paid $200 for it which is a great deal, I think the original price is around $290+tax.

This is a 34mm 5000 SWA series. It is parfocal which means you don't have to refocus when changing with other EPs from the same series? I haven't tried since I don't own other EPs from the same series but I'll take Meade's word for it.

This is a great eyepiece, it features 6 fully multicoated elements. I used it on a Celestron CGE1400 (that I borrowed for a couple of hours)  an amazing scope in itself. Now some may think what's the point of a low power eyepiece on a high focal length scope (this is a 3910mm focal length scope at F11. Well that's about 115x power, that is medium power on a wide angle eyepiece. This is an amazing combination actually, Saturn looked absolutely berautiful. I tried achieving the same power using a TV NP101 and Nagler EP, the views through the C14 were a lot brighter (the 14" had a lot to do with it of course). My point is that this EP is great for a high focal length scope.

Here's a summary:

- 2" eyepiece
- 34mm focal length
- 68 deg FOV
- Views are sharp edge to edge
- Parfocal but haven't tried
- About $200 used

Pros

- Beautiful finish
- Sharp views edge to edge
- Parfocal

Cons

- Somewhat expensive

I always heard great things about the Meade 5000 series, I've never owned one. I'm not sure which to get the 4000 or 5000 series. If you have any recommendations please post here.

Thanks,

John

I prefer the 4000 series, however this IS a great eyepiece.
