Why is the image in the eyepiece blurry?

There are many reason why the image in the eyepiece can get blurry, here are a few causes and solutions:

  • Dew has formed on the telescope lens, mirror or eyepiece - Dry your telescope using a hair dryer at medium heat, do not blow air directly onto optical parts, blow facing the side of the optical tube, then use a dew shield to prevent dew from forming.

  • Magnification is way too high, try using a higher focal length eyepiece which will yield lower magnification

  • Seeing isn't very good, high clouds, wind, humidity or other environmental factors can cause the view to become blurry. There really isn't much you can do about this, wait until the weather clears and seeing becomes more stable.
