I use this eyepiece with my f4.8 Dob mostly. I Purchased it for 2 reasons. 1) I needed an eyepiece that would do well in a fast scope. 2) It was advertised as weighing only 8 oz. I have really put this eyepiece through its paces. Earlier this year untill now I used it a lot on globs and open star clusters like the Double, double. And there is one thing I like on the Double Cluster is good edge correction. The Siebert Optics 36mm was perfect all the way out to about a couple of % of the edge. I can live with that. Some eyepieces I have used also give a milky background. I don't know if that is coatings or what but the Siebert Optics did well in this regard and gave very descent contrast. All in all this eyepiece did everything I wanted and would have been will to pay more for. If this eyepiece did not work out I would have purchased a Pan 35mm. So for the price I paid I will give it a 10.

Like John, I needed a 2" EP in the mid thirty mm range and decided to try the Siebert Optics Observatory Grade, 36mm. I've enjoyed mine as much as John has his. A friend loaned me his TV 35mm Pan for a couple weeks. By comparison the TV 35 Pan may be slightly better in edge correction but overall it's really hard to fault the Siebert 36mm when comparing the two even through an NP-127 or a 12.5" DOB. Can you buy better? Yes, for a lot more money. At the price the Siebert OG 36mm is a great buy. It's a perfect fit between my UO 40mm MK80 & UO 32mm MK70. Clear Skies, WR
No comment given Rating: 10 out of 10 Better correction then budget widefields but a 35mm Stratus or 35mm Scopos will kill it when it comes to correction for astigmatism in a fast scope. Has problems with uncoated lens surfaces too. Rating: 6 out of 10 |
